Visual documentation and photography project of JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) Art direction, environment design and character aesthetics throughout all generations of JRPG's.
From the pixel-art of the early Final Fantasy games to the photoreal environment of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, JRPG's have always focused on telling a story through their visuals. Each frame is designed with purpose; each colour palette is created to help tell the story. This portfolio showcases how these visual decisions have been made in JRPG titles ranging from the Super Nintendo all the way to the PlayStation 5.
This project contains screenshots, captures of UI (User Interface) designs, and environmental compositions from games such as Persona 5 Royal, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Dragon Quest XI and Chrono Cross. Each image has been selected based on artistic quality as well as how JRPG designers use visual language to give emotional, tonal and thematic meaning.
The purpose of this project is to be a part of a larger effort to document, appreciate and promote JRPG Culture.
